Ecuador Yasuni Biosphere Reserve

Waorani indigenous women dance during a visit by Ecuador’s Vice President Lenin Moreno who held the president’s weekly state TV and radio program ‘Enlace Ciudadano’ in Yasuni National Park in the Upper Napo Valley of the Western Amazon region in Ecuador, Saturday Aug. 21, 2010. Moreno hosted the program while President Rafael Correa is on vacation. Yasuni National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1989 and home to the Tagaeri-Taromenane and Waorani indigenous communities, holds close to 1 billion barrels of crude. Since 2007 Correa’s government has appealed to the international community to provide the Andean nation with funding in exchange for abandoning oil drilling in the reserve. (AP Photo/Dolores Ochoa)
