Clandestinos como mercaderías de saldo
navegan hacia la luz sin descanso,
el mal tiempo, la sed, la fatiga,
tensa el silencio y en el extravío
el odio señala a los distintos,
en un espacio de sombras sin huellas
el espanto une el cielo y el abismo,
la codicia lleva a la muerte a los débiles.
Tenían la culpa en el origen.

CLANDESTINE IMMIGRANTS

Immigrants, like leftover goods
sail towards the light tirelessly,
bad weather, thirst, fatigue,
the silence in gripping and, in their loss
hatred identifies the outsiders,
in a untrod shadowy expanse
terror unites sky and abyss,
greed carries the weak unto death.
They were guilty from the beginning.
ESPARCIDOS NUTREN LA SEDIENTA TIERRA
Esparcidos nutren la sedienta tierra
una agónica frontera donde no hallan asilo
ni piedad sus espíritus, un rosario
de gotas de miedo que con sus huesos
anuncian la muerte de otros sueños,
un desamparo de sentido silencio
que germina en los límites
del desconsuelo de sus sangres,
en la culpa de la pobreza endémica
donde gravita la violencia.
A las personas que murieron
cruzando el desierto de la frontera.

THE DISPLACED NOURISH THE PARCHED LAND
The displaced nourish the parched land
a dying border where they don’t find refuge
nor their spirits mercy, a rosary
of drops of fear which with their bones
announces the death of their dreams,
a silent feeling of abandonment
which germinates in the borders
arising from the despair of their blood,
in the sin of their endemic poverty
where violence gravitates.
For the people who died
crossing the desert at the border.
